From Evangelicalism to Episcopalian: A Faith Evolution
This week I shared my faith story in an episode of the Let It Matter Podcast for the first time, all in one place. And of course... up until this point only. I'm a work in progress.
I was recently sent a DM on the Let It Matter Podcast IG account by a new listener who had heard about the show because she follows one of the guests that had been on. She said she resonated with so much of what we talked about in the episode and asked if I had ever shared the entirety of my faith story anywhere — particularly how I transitioned out of evangelicalism and into the mainline/ Episcopal church back in 2019, as I had mentioned briefly in the episode she heard.
While I have shared parts of my story all over various places ( from my time guest cohosting the Where Do We Go From Here? podcast, as guests on other peoples’ podcasts, on the Let It Matter Blog, and since launching the Let It Matter Podcast in January), I had never done so as all one cohesive story, all in one place, until now.
In preparation for the episode, rather than just recording the story myself, I decided to ask my friend, author and fellow podcast host, Kate Boyd (who herself had a recent transition out of the evangelical church and into the mainline) if she would take the reins as a guest host for the day and interview me about my story. She graciously agreed and her addition to the episode is invaluable.
This episode is for those who are on their own faith journeys — asking hard questions, wrestling with too-easy answers, examining every aspect of what you’ve always been told, hanging on by a thread, or already out the door. Maybe you’re just barely peeking your head out the door to see what else could be out there, or maybe you’re too afraid to even do that. Maybe you’ve been on this journey a while now, or through multiple iterations of your faith. Me too. Welcome.
Episode is available now wherever you get your podcasts, and here are a few links for those who listen this way: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or on the Show Site
I am also over on the Let It Matter Podcast IG (@letitmatterpodcast) stories sharing some of the books, authors, theologians, scholars, podcasts, and other resources that I absorbed as I was studying and examining my theology and beliefs on various topics. Check those out too if you’re interested!
